Expertos europeos refuerzan su compromiso con sistemas alimentarios más sostenibles

• En el marco de la Alianza Europea de Universidades EU GREEN, que coordina la UEx, ha tenido lugar en Wrocław (Polonia) el segundo encuentro SEED de los proyectos AGRIBIOPEP y COOBASED que buscan sistemas alimentarios más sostenibles y eficientes

15/09/2025. La Universidad de Ciencias de la Vida y Medio Ambiente de Wrocław (Polonia)ha acogido el segundo Encuentro SEED de los proyectos AGRIBIOPEP y COOBASED, durante tres jornadas de trabajo entre el 8 y el 10 de septiembre.

Las sesiones han reunido a especialistas de la Alianza Europea de Universidades EU GREEN para avanzar en el desarrollo de soluciones que impulsen sistemas alimentarios más sostenibles, eficientes y respetuosos con el entorno. Ambos proyectos, coordinados por la Universidad de Extremadura, comparten objetivos complementarios en materia de sostenibilidad agroalimentaria.

COOBASED, liderado por el profesor Francisco Javier Mesías, promueve el consumo de alimentos orgánicos a través de redes de proximidad y estructuras cooperativas. Por su parte, AGRIBIOPEP, coordinado por la investigadora María José Benito Bernáldez, investiga nuevas fuentes de proteínas naturales y de bajo coste para valorizar residuos agroalimentarios y reducir el uso de proteínas animales.

Durante el encuentro, se han compartido avances técnicos, y debatido sinergias. Gracias a estos proyectos se han presentado propuestas a las convocatorias europeas FutureFoods y Horizonte Europa 2024 y 2025. También se ha avanzado en reforzar los acuerdos para facilitar la movilidad de estudiantes entre las universidades socias. Los resultados reflejan un fuerte compromiso institucional por parte de los equipos de España, Portugal, Polonia, Italia, Francia, Irlanda y Suecia, consolidando estos proyectos SEED como plataformas clave para transformar el modelo alimentario europeo.

European experts boost their commitment to more sustainable food systems

Within the framework of the EU GREEN European University Alliance, coordinated by the UEx, the second SEED meeting of the AGRIBIOPEP and COOBASED projects, which seek more sustainable and efficient food systems, took place in Wrocław (Poland).

The University of Life Sciences and Environment in Wrocław hosted the second SEED meeting of the AGRIBIOPEP and COOBASED projects, during three working days between September 8 and 10.

The sessions brought together specialists from the EU GREEN European University Alliance to advance the development of solutions that promote more sustainable, efficient, and environmentally friendly food systems. Both projects, coordinated by the University of Extremadura, share complementary objectives in the field of agri-food sustainability.

COOBASED, led by Professor Francisco Javier Mesías, promotes the consumption of organic food through local networks and cooperative structures. AGRIBIOPEP, coordinated by researcher María José Benito Bernáldez, investigates new sources of natural, low-cost proteins to recover agri-food waste and reduce the use of animal proteins.

During the meeting, technical advances were shared and synergies were discussed. Thanks to these projects, proposals have been submitted to the European calls for proposals FutureFoods and Horizon Europe 2024 and 2025. Progress has also been made in strengthening agreements to facilitate student mobility between partner universities. The results reflect a strong institutional commitment on the part of teams in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Italy, France, Ireland, and Sweden, consolidating these SEED projects as key platforms for transforming the European food model.
